FAQs

What is Beer Dad? Beer Dad is a no-nonsense subscription for the craft beer fans who don’t need snacks, bells, whistles and reading along with their beer. It is all about trying the very best beers from the very best independent breweries. Each month, you choose the discovery beer box you prefer, curated by Beer Sommeliers from the Institute of Brewing & Distilling, and Great Taste Award judges. These imaginative selections will have no duplicates, a range of styles and abv’s, and everything can be controlled by you online – Edit, Pause or Cancel whenever. On top of this, every bit of revenue (not just profit) that comes through Beer Dad, 1% is given to the Disaster Emergency Committee. We believe in craft beer with a conscience.

How much does it cost? Our monthly subscription is £36.75 (or £54.75 for Strong, Pale & Hoppy box) which includes eight fresh craft beers and will always be a minimum 3.4 litres, or 6 pints of beer per box.

How many beers are in each box? Each box will contain no less than eight beers and we will always have a minimum of 3.4 litres, or 6 pints of liquid per box. There will be no duplicates in our boxes.

What beers are in each box? There are six different discovery boxes you can order currently including a Pale & Hoppy box, a Sour beer box, a Dark beer box, a Gluten-Free beer box, a Higher ABV beer box, and our founders favourite the Mixed box. Each box will contain a range of styles and abv’s, but these selections will be based on the boxes headline style.

What if I have a fault with my beer? We have a no quibble policy and are always happy
to chat beer with you. These beers can be returned, at no cost to you, and you will either be offered a refund or replacement(s).

Cheap beer at premium prices.

I cancelled my subscription because the quality just isn't there. It's always the same breweries, and most of them shouldn't be anywhere near a premium level beer package. At more than £4 a can, it needs to be way better. Mostly, the beers are thin with muted hoppiness. Clearly Beer Dad is getting a massive discount from these breweries, which is why they're always the same, but it's not being passI cancelled my subscription because the quality just isn't there. Hi Russell,
This is Jamie the founder of Beer Dad. I hope you are well today.
I appreciate you leaving feedback as it is always important for us to learn how and where to improve. With that in mind, it would be great to understand which breweries and/or beers you qualify as being of good enough quality? I really appreciate you listing us as a premium service, as this is what we intend to be, but for us to understand where we went wrong it would be very helpful to know your opinions on this.

For full disclosure, you have had six boxes from us and the breweries included in those boxes were: Brew York, Electric Bear, Full Circle, Gravity Well, Marble, Moor, Overtone, Signature Brew, 360 Degrees, Dark Revolution, New Bristol, Phantom, RedWillow, Unbarred, Brass Castle, Burning Sky, Cloudwater, Floc, Round Corner, Siren Craft Brew, Abbeydale, Quantock, Pretty Decent, Vibrant Forest, Modest Beers, Disruption IS Brewing, Drop Project, Duration, Mad Squirrel, Hackney Church, Turning Point, Two Flints, Pressure Drop and Farm Yard Brew.

In my professional opinion, all of these breweries produce exceptional, high quality beers and should not be taken for granted. That said, everyone is entitled to their subjective opinion and what is bad for you, might also be good for another. The objective methods we use for sourcing our beers are based on quality of brewing production, recipe development, quality of packaging into cans, and of course the final check is the liquid itself before we ever send anything out to our subscribers. My own personal experience is as a beer sommelier, beer judge and beer writer in our fabulous industry, and I review products on a daily basis not just for Beer Dad, but also as part of my full-time job as a drinks consultant.

You mentioned 'always the same breweries' and by my count over the 6 boxes you received you would have seen Signature Brew twice, Round Corner twice, New Bristol twice, Brew York twice, Overtone twice, and Full Circle twice. None of these beers were repeats from the same brewery however, and were seasonal releases. We speak to all our breweries regularly to plan with their upcoming releases, especially with the hop forward beers as these can dissipate much more quickly unfortunately and taste old/stale. So whilst we cannot guarantee we will never use the same brewery again, we can guarantee we will never use the same beer again.

In regards to the discounted beers comments. We only buy fresh, seasonal products for our boxes and these are not discounted. Also, we are just 1 year old as a company and do not have the economies of scale to demand huge discounts for the beers we source. We operate a sustainable business model that is best for the breweries and for ourselves. That said, there are some beers that are potentially beyond our limit in terms of price, but I can GUARANTEE that every month you are saving money subscribed to Beer Dad.

My last point to review is your reference to Rad Beer. If you enjoy picking your own beers from a shop then I can understand that, but please before you review our small subscription business trying to support our amazing craft breweries, consider that a 1 star review is potentially more damaging than you think. Were the beers, website, packaging, service, communication, socials, blogs and promotion that terrible that we warranted a 1 star review? Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but please consider how damaging that could have been to us and what we are trying to achieve.

We have failed to meet your expectations and I am truly sorry about that, and I wish we had spoken via email or a call before your review and cancellation, but I truly appreciate you trying out our service and wish you all the best for the future. Jamie

Good Choice of Quality Dark Drinks

Not many places offer dark boxes for some reason. Beer Dad's dark subscription choice always delivers, recommended.
